Isaiah 64:4 For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, Nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.Recently I was privileged to participate in an Awakening Journey across the great Commonwealth of Kentucky, visiting both recent and historic sites where God released His Spirit in awakening, transforming power. It was a life-changing journey, to say the least.
During this journey Ken Malone, Forerunner Ministries, shared that we are in a season to Recovery Awakening, using the passage from I Samuel 30:1-8, when David and his men had to go "recover all" of what was stolen at Ziklag. We are certainly in a season where we need to rise up to recover all that has been lost, stolen, or left behind. This certainly includes awakening, as well as relationships, starting in families and expanding beyond. It also includes recovery of faith, hope, passion, perseverance, and life-force for many who have grown weary in the work of intercession. While in Cane Ridge, Ken shared a powerful dream by Julie Meyer that ignited fresh passion in all of us who were present. In this dream, of which I am included a link for you to read in its entirety for yourself, the Lord is releasing a fresh call to intercession and giving us a strategy to stir up the embers of life, faith and passion that God indeed desires to bring a "great greater awakening" to our cities, states, and nations. The key is in telling the Old Old Stories -- the stories of God's amazing work in the past.
- Stories from the early church from Paul, Peter, James, John . . .
- Stories of the early Celtic Church that transformed Ireland and impacted much of western Europe, men and women like Patrick, Columba, Aiden, Hulda and others.
- Stories from the Reformation such as Martin Luther, John Calvin, Count Zinzindorf, the Moravians, the Salzburgers, and countless others.
- Stories from the First and Second Great Awakenings with George Whitefield, John & Charles Wesley, Charles Finny, Jonathan Edwards, Dwight L Moody, Barton Stone; E.M. Bounds; stories from Cane Ridge, Red River Meeting House, Rochester NY, the Noon-Day Prayers in NYC. . . or out of the way places like, Shoulderbone Creek outside of Sparta, GA (I just discovered this one!)
- Stories of God's Movements in more recent days: A.B Simpson, Maria Woodworth-Etter, Evangelist Sam Jones, Kathryn Kuhlman, William Seymour, Billy Sunday, Aimee Simple-McPherson
At CityGate Atlanta, the Holy Spirit has had us telling stories of prior moves of the Lord, actually even before I heard about the dream, and the impact upon our lives has been significant. Our worship and prayer times have taken on a new passion, fervor and power. Telling the stories of old stirs up faith and encourages us to press on toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (See Philippians 3:12-16)
I encourage you to take a few moments to read Julie Meyer's dream, and then begin to tell the old, old stories. The song that is key in Julie's dream was a favorite in my growing-up years and has taken on new passion in this season of life, "I love to tell the story. 'Twill be my theme in glory. In trying times it is important that we align - or realign - our words (both spoken and written), our thoughts, and our beliefs to line up with the Word of God.
